CDT Ltd
Innovation is an over-used word, yet we take it further. In everything we do, from cutting edge science through to life enhancing applications, we strive for better.
As the European research and development arm of global chemicals giant Sumitomo Chemical, we benefit from the financial strength and market channels of our parent. Our current work spans projects from wave guide materials to water scarcity; from smart sensors to squeezed cities.
Although our activities are complex, what drives us is simple. We collaborate with partners – universities, manufacturers and end users – to investigate, develop and deliver sustainable solutions to some of today’s and tomorrow’s biggest challenges.
We are proud of our place at the cutting edge of so many technologies, and of our international culture. We benefit from being part of a major global chemical corporation, yet we’re small enough to have a real impact.
Our team comprises almost 100 talented scientists from a variety of disciplines, and from at least 16 countries. Each one has the chance to make a difference.
CDT was spun out in 1992 from the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, and became part of Sumitomo Chemical Group (SCG) in 2007.
We originally pioneered the development of polymer (organic) light emitting diode (P-OLED) technology and its use in electronic displays and lighting, but we have now broadened our scope significantly. Current work spans projects from wave guide materials to water scarcity; from smart sensors to ‘squeezed cities’.
Although our activities are complex, what drives us is simple: we collaborate with partners: universities, manufacturers and end users to investigate, develop and deliver sustainable solutions to some of today’s biggest problems.
As SCG’s only corporate R&D centre outside Japan, our focus is on creating novel technologies for a better, sustainable society. We benefit from the financial strength and market channels of our parent.
